They say it never rains on Brielle Day and at least for the runners that proved true again this year. With near ideal running conditions the runners took off on one of the most challenging 10K courses around through the hills and dales of Brielle. Just after the start there is a steep climb and then after a down hill several tough hills are scattered throughout the course. The runners may forget the hills as they come toward the finish in the last mile with a speedy down hill and then looping into the park for a finish surrounded by the craft fair.
The overall winner was Dave Slovinski shown on the left with race directors Jack and Diane Cheer holding the finishing tape in a time of 35:12. For the women in a very close race it was Gabby Barrett in a time of.41:09 followed right behind by Dactrilia Booth in 41:10
Awards and lots of random prizes were presented after the race. Runners were also treated to bagels, lots of fruit and pasta salad.
Congratulations to Jack and Diane Cheer for staging another successful event.
Among the many club finishers were: Mark Sheklian 44:40(3ag), Dennis Hart 51:26(PR)
The rain stopped on queue just before the start of the Annual 9-11 Remembrance Run and the several hundred runners stayed dry on their trek starting in Belmar and continuing on to the south end of the Spring Lake Boardwalk. Tim Mahoney led the runners and gave them their instructions at the start on the Boardwalk in Belmar. Tim told the runners to run in silence on the way out and reflect on the tragic day . On the way out the long line of runners led by Tim and a contingent of West Point Cadets stopped at the 9-11 Memorial in Spring Lake where a crowd waited for their arrival. They read more names of those fallen and placed flags and flowers around the memorial which was inscribed with those from Spring Lake who lost their lives. From there due to the sand blown on the boardwalk the Spring Lake Police provided an escort along Ocean Avenue as the runners made their way south to the end of the boardwalk.
At the very end of the Boardwalk a make shift memorial was improvised in the sand from remnants of the World Trade Center Towers. More names were read and after all were read the runners left the remaining flowers and flags on the memorial. The memorial still stands and if you are in the area stop by and check it out. Tim then gave the runners instructions reflecting what President Bush said after 9-11 to resume their lives.
The runners made their way back to Belmar and then on to Bar Anticipation for a buffet and reception.

runAPalooza 2 is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2010. It includes the Jersey Shore Relay from Seaside Heights to Asbury Park, the Asbury park Half Marathon covering Asbury park through Sea Girt and a 5K fun run/walk through Asbury Park.
The relay committee has already met once and if anyone is interested in being on the planning committee please send an email to jsrc@hotmail.com. We could use some people to help with getting town approvals. This would involve contacting the respective town halls, sending in a letter or completing the required permits and following up to make sure that all is okay.
Some of the towns are already covered. We could use help in the following: Manasquan, Brielle, Point Pleasant Beach (Jenkinsons), Bay Head, Mantaloking, Brick Beach (Bricktown). Lavalette, Ortley Beach and Seaside Heights. It would be good if you lived in the town or had some connections there.
If anyone can help just email jsrc@hotmail.com.
