It Never Rains on Brielle Day

At least never on the Brielle 10K

Results - Photos - Jim Robbins Article

Photos of All Finishers in Time Order

They say "It Never Rains on Brielle Day" and that saying held up again this year despite some serious threats of rain to include remnants of the Hurricane Hannah coming up the coast. The day before most people would never had thought that the string of rain free days would have held up - but the sun actually poked out between the clouds just after the start.  However the runners may have welcomed a few drops of rain on the hot, humid morning particularly as they made it up the hills of Brielle.  The course may be one of the toughest 10K's in New Jersey.

The men's overall winner was Dave Slovinski of Point Pleasant pictured finishing on the left with Race Directors Jack and Diane Cheer holding the tape in a time of 33:16  which was only a few seconds over the course record.  For the women it was Heather Parks of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia in a time of 39:04 .

Many random prize awards were presented, age group and overall awards to include Brielle Residents were also awarded after the race.

The Giant Arts and Crafts Fair went on as scheduled with the traditional beer garden and lots of tasty things to munch on.

Congratulations to Jack and Diane Cheer and all the volunteers for a great event.

The race attracted a world class field and some fantastic times were put in by the athletes as they ran the scenic ocean front course which started directly in front of Pier Village and ran south along the boardwalk and then returned north and another turn around back .

In the men's race it was  Derese Deniboba  shown breaking the finish tape on the left in a time of 14:46 and for the women it was  Buzunesh Deba shown finishing on the right in 16:45.

After the 5K there were kids races on the beach and the kids ran various distances to finish with throngs of spectators overlooking the finish from above on the boardwalk.
