Race
Information - Saturday, October 20
As you may know the Breeder's Cup is coming to Monmouth Park this October. It is one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the country if not the world. To mark the occasion a race will be held on the grounds of Monmouth Park which will be similar to the Haskell Race which used to be a staple at the Jersey Shore in year's past. This event has tremendous backing and will certainly be a huge production and a one time spectacular in road racing at the Jersey Shore. Based on its success the Haskell Race may return next year!
Prizes Already Announced for Breeders' Cup Fan Fest Road Race on Saturday, October 20th:
The 5K will feature Overall and Age Group Prize Money (10-yr
age groups - prize money for ages 20 and over).
There will also be a Grand Prize drawing, which is open to all 5K
participants - prizes include 2 pairs of tickets to the Monmouth Park
Breeders' Cup Race (a very valuable prize as the event is basically sold out), Continental
Airline tickets, and tickets to Jets' and Giants' Games.
Kiddie Sprints follow the main event - with clowns, characters and pony rides. A fun filled day for everyone.
The pre-registration discount entry fee is still available, thru Oct.1st - Race is limited to 1500 Participants. Sign Up early to take advantage of special pre - registration rates and insure your entry into this special once in a life time event.

Wendy was struck by a car while jogging one morning. She was still recovering from donating a kidney to a sibling. Wendy was a volunteer at several local races. We wish her a quick and complete recovery.
The Club will again be assisting at
the New York City marathon to be held on Sunday, November 4th. We will be
assisting at the Finish Area in Central Park and will be responsible for the
Celebrity Finish Area. We escort the celebrities and make sure they meet
up with their friends and relatives (who are alos most likely
celebrities). It is a fun filled day. We will have a bus available
to take the volunteers to New York City and return. Its a full day - and
plan to leave here early in the morning about 7 or 8 AM and return back at about
6 PM.
Anyone interested should contact Phil Hinck at phinck@comcast.net
Time is approaching for the NYC Marathon and our bus is filling up fast. Here is a list of those already registered as of a few weeks ago. We will update the list soon. If you are interested in signing up we still have some spots available. We will be posting and sending out instructions to all the people who signed up in a week or two.
To help the 2 million people around the world (mostly children) suffering with Neurofibromatosis (NF), three Holmdel residents are working together to increase public awareness of NF and raise funds for NF research. Kelly Brogowski, a school counselor at Holmdel High School, and Florence McCarthy met a few years ago through a mutual friend from St. Catherine's. Soon they learned that they had something else in common - running. They formed a friendship through the Jersey Shore Running Club (www.jsrc.org) and two years ago they decided to run the Virginia Beach Rock-n-Roll 1/2 Marathon together for little Aidan, a student at Village School who suffers with NF.
In 2005, Florence ran the NYC Marathon
for Aidan. In 2006, Kelly ran NYC for Aidan, both as members of the NF Marathon
team - the primary fundraising vehicle for the Children's Tumor Foundation (www.ctf.org/marathon).
This year, they have enlisted me to join them in the race for NF research. We
are all running for Aidan and all those who suffer with NF, for hope, for
effective treatments, for a cure.
This past April, the three of us ran the Jersey Shore Relay from Seaside Heights to Asbury Park. This past weekend, on September 16, we three ran the 13.1 mile Philly Distance Run. And last but not least, on Sunday, November 4th, the three of us will be running the 26.2 mile NYC Marathon as members of the NF Marathon Team program, in support of the Children's Tumor Foundation.

A large crowd of several hundred runners, along with many spectators, participated in this Year's 9/11 Memorial Run, starting in Belmar and continuing through Spring Lake. Tim Mahoney, accompanied by cadets from West Point Prep, led the runners, and participants read the 140 plus names of the Jersey Shore residents who lost their lives on that tragic day six years ago. The group ran in silence on the way out with a stop at the 9/11 Memorial along the ocean in Spring Lake. At the end of the Spring Lake boardwalk runners gathered around remnants of the World Trade Center and read another portion of names. Then they solemnly laid flowers and flags around the remnants. The runners then returned back to the start and a post run reception at Bar Anticipation. New York Times

If you have been accepted (check your status here) into the NYC Marathon you need to start your training and you should also be planning on your transportation to the start. The JSRC will again be offering convenient transportation to and from the NYC Marathon for runners and spectators.
Sign Up as soon as you know you have been accepted as space will be limited. We will have at least two busses and after these fill up we will add more if we get sufficient interest. The two busses we had last year were sold out so don't delay - this is the best way to get to the start and get home safely with all your running friends at the Jersey Shore.
