We will be having a very special outdoor barbecue at next month's club meeting on Tuesday, August 31st. The club will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, pasta salad and drink. If you like, you can bring a covered dish or dessert to add to the menu. Barbecue will be at the Deal Fire House starting at about 7:15 PM. All members are invited to attend - lots of surprises and guest appearances.
Anyone who is doing the NYC Marathon should be thinking about their transportation to and from the Marathon start and finish. A good choice would be the Central Jersey Road Runners Bus. It drops you off at the start and then you meet in a building directly across from the finish where there are refreshments. There are several busses so you don't need to wait until the very last person finishes. Friends and relatives can also take the bus and they can watch the start and meet you at the finish. The busses generally sell out so check out the CJRRC Web Site for more information
Mary Conry, a JSRC member, and regular at many Jersey Shore races tragically passed away this past weekend. We extend our sincere sympathy to Mary's family and all her friends who knew her as a very special person.

We are soliciting input from members and fellow runners. Please send your input by Monday, Aug 16, 2004 to newsletter@jsrc.org. Attach photos of your running with Mary, if you have any. Mary, I did not know your face
maybe someday, another race
I did not know you personally,
yet, the news matters to me.
You are special because
that's what a club does
sign up here, run
it makes us one.
I remember seeing your name
our ages being close to the same
just want to let those who love you,
that you mattered to me too.
You are special just because
that's what a club does.
We signed up to run
together we are one.
We'll miss you, just because.
that's what a club does.
Makes us one,
We run, we run

Dear JSRC, Greetings from the UK from Bill and Mark. Just a quick note to assure all that we are still alive. An update on our excellant adventure.... We arrived in London a week and a half ago and stayed with Adrian Harris on his canal boat. Then off to stonehenge and over to Cardiff Wales for the world interhash. 5000 hashers from all over the globe. We were pleasantly surprised when JSRC member Jim Buckler actually found us in a pub after the red dress run and we shared a pint before he had to get back to London. The hash was great as was the beer. (got your shirt, Jim) We left Wales and actually stayed with Karen Charles "Mum" in Liverpool. Great Lady and great time. Thank you Karen. Then up through the lake district and arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland in time for a hashing event that started and finished at the Caledonia Brewery. We stayed with a wonderful Scottish hashing couple last night and will storm the Edinburgh Castle today. Weather has actually been great. Attending a beer festival at a local pub tonight. If all goes according to plan, we should be back Monday. Bill and Mark

Dear
Jersey Shore Running Club:
On behalf of the Pine Beach 5K Race Committee and the Borough of Pine Beach, I
would like to thank JSRC for it's help with the 6th Annual Pine Beach 5K &
One Mile Riverside Run.
We had a record number 875 enter in this year's race. With your support
this event has successfully and safely grown to one of the largest races in
Ocean County. This would not have been possible without the help of your
dedicated club members and those members who participated in the race.
Thank you very much.
