This coming Saturday (Sept 15) is the Bayshore Hospital 5K at the Hospital in Holmdel. Its a great course with lots of post race amenities. The club has supported this race for many years. We are still in need of volunteers to help out on the day of the race. We are specifically looking for one more person to ride a bike on the course. All volunteers should plan to get there by 8:30 AM. If you plan to help or need more information, please contact John MacGillivray
Wednesday group runs continue at Holmdel Park, 6 PM. If you missed the homemade chocolate chip cookies 2 weeks ago, you may have another shot this week for some treats. Also, as sunset gets earlier, the starting time may be moved up. Please check back here or subscribe to our email updates above for any changes in times. Runs on Sunday are going geat with marathon training in full swing. The Annual Sheehan Classic opened on Friday Evening with the Kid's Races under threatening skies but the rain held off enough for all the Kid's to be treated to a really fun event with lots of clowns, finishers medals, refreshments and a great looking shirt. There were lots of smiles (and a few tears) as the Kid's ran down Broad Street in downtown Red Bank. The weekend included a Pasta Party and Runner's Expo under the Big Tent. On Saturday morning while the temperature dropped a bit the humidity increased. The heat and humidity took its toll on many local runners but the visiting Kenyan's seemed to thrive on it.. They took all the top spots with fantastic finishing times under 24 minutes. The overall winner in a time of 23:20 was Gabriel Mucher. For the women it was Grace Njoki in a time of 28:25 Afterward runners were treated to loads of refreshments and entertainment at Marine Park on the banks of the Navesink. I enjoyed riding in the Central Jersey Bicycle Club's Annual Farm Lands Flat Tour on May 5. This was a very well organized event. I participated in the Metric Century 62 mile ride. The springs scenery in Monmouth County was great. Excellent support was provided to the riders, including rest stops with snacks. As a competitive runner, I find cycling and triathlons excellent cross-training to help me in my 5K races. I recommend other runners participate in cycling events sponsored by the Central Jersey Bicycle Club .
