Thanks to all for what I think was the BEST RAT RACE EVER!! I'm sure that everyone will agree that this was a great hash run, from Dave, Rics' and Marks' trails to Bob Gileski's great food to a super rock and roll band (Sprout). Many thanks to the guys at the WRAT for coming down, to Randi and Keith of Point Pleasant Dist., to Colleen, Allan, Bobby G., Bernie and P. Hincks'. To Regi donating the use of Bar A's trolly (thanks to the very nice and a very busy driver) to the crew at Allaire Historic Railroads and especially thanks to Chris Curley for the setting up of the party area and Dr. Navarro for the use of his farm. I raised over $1,000 for charity (FRA)and will donate that to them next week. Bill Scholl

The Club will again be volunteering at the NYC Marathon and we will be responsible again for the Celebrity Finish Area. Last year we hosted many celebrities to include P, Diddy and company. We are limited to exactly 30 volunteers and those who helped last year will be given first crack at the limited slots. We do expect a few openings this year so if anyone is interested please contact Phil Hinck at phinck@comcast,net and provide him with your name, address, and date of birth. First come first served..
Last check there were still a few seats open on the Central Jersey Road Runners Bus for runners in the NYC Marathon. The busses leave from Cranford and take runners to the start and then pick them up at the meeting place directly across from the finish. It is about the best way to go. Check their web site for details at http://www.cjrrc.org

The Ninth Annual Jersey Shore Relay to benefit Special Olympics is scheduled for April 16, 2005. An application will be posted soon so save the date.. Last year's event drew over 1200 participants and over 200 teams but more importantly raised over $35,000 for Special Olympics. This year's event will most likely be even bigger and better. The committee planning the event will be holding its kick off meeting very soon. Yes, it does take this long to plan and we need your help to keep the event going. If anyone would like to participate on the committee please let us know. We can use help in many different areas and the more volunteers we have the easier it is for everyone. No experience required. If interested or to be placed on the distribution for the meeting notification just drop us an email at jsrc@hotmail.com. Thanks
Patrick Asay was the first overll finisher in this event in a time of 44:06. It was Patrick's first overall victory. He ran the race with his dog holly - must have pushed him through. Congratulations.

It was a totally different type of track "workout" for JSRC as the membership gathered at the first annual picnic at Monmouth Park Racetrack. The windfeather flew proudly at the picnic grounds right next to the track itself. The weather cooperated and Mother Nature gave us one of the nicest days of the year. Chef Extradinaire Bob Gilesky created special dishes including his secret chicken recipe and hot dogs and hamburgers. Many members brought their own special creations.
An assortment of beers, wine and soft drinks rounded out the menu.
Many JSRC'ers turned out to be pretty good handicappers and many a winning ticket was cashed in. Betting or not, it is thrilling to watch the thoroughbreds charge into the home stretch and actually feel them pounding the ground as they pasted by.
All had a wonderful time and congratulations and many thanks to Jerry, Marti and the committee and volunteers who put on an instant classic. We all look forward to next year's Picnic at Track

A group of JSRC Members during a Sunday Run recently dropped in on Kent Sabin who is recovering from a stroke. Kent as can be seen is wearing his running shoes. We all wish him a quick and speedy full recovery.
There was no registration, no t-shirts, no medals, no awards but it was a very special run which all the participants will dearly remember. Tim Mahoney (shown on the left) led the group of runners starting in Belmar. During the course of the run the names of all those lost from the Shore Area were read. Along the way a stop was made at the Spring Lake 9-11 Memorial where a dedication ceremony was being held for the new flag pole. The participants layed down flags and flowers at the memorial. They then proceeded to the end of Spring Lake to the beach bordering Sea Girt where they gathered around a mock up of the World Trade Center Towers. The final list of names were read. Tim instructed the participants to resume their lives and return to the start. It was a very special run.
