"I wanted to also drop a note that this was an amazing place to run - beautiful and challenging, the course was very steep for the first 8.5 miles, going from 400 to 900 feet above sea level in that short distance. After that it leveled and had a few smaller hills both up and down. It was only a 3 hour drive, and I will definitely take the challenge and do it again next year, and will carpool with anyone that is up for it. It was well organized with lots of heart for a great cause, and while water stops were spaced out quite a bit, and there were no latrines on the course, it wasn't really an issue. The temps were 40 to 45 the whole way, and it was wonderful." - Ellen McCann - 2:02:14 (1st Half Marathon)
A great course with a fantastic post race party - this has become a staple at the Jersey Shore.

Got a pair (or a pile) of old sneakers
that are too worn-out to give to charity? Nike will recycle any brand of
athletic shoe through its Reuse-a-Shoe program. You can drop shoes off at any
Niketown store or Nike Factory store; the company also has other drop-off spots,
and if there’s not one near you, you can mail shoes in. (Get details on the Nike
website.) The company processes and recycles the footwear to make sports
surfaces for basketball courts, tennis courts, running tracks and playgrounds.
Right now they’re collecting shoes to make athletic surfaces for New Orleans,
to help bring youth sports back to the city as it rebuilds. To date, about 20
million pairs of athletic shoes worldwide have been recycled through the
Reuse-A-Shoe program.
Holiday time
is right around the corner! It is the time when JSRC club members adopt 3
families for the Christmas Holiday. The Adopt-A-Family Committee is seeking
nominations from the JSRC community for needy families. Please send all
recommendations to Elaine at Tsoesh@yahoo.com by
November 14 explaining the situation and size of the family in need. The
selected families will be posted so we can all help make their Christmas a
little bit brighter. As you are doing your shopping, you may want to consider
picking up an extra gift certificate from Target or the grocery store. Every
single gift helps!!
