Near ideal conditions of a suuny day with cool temperatures greeted this year's Hashathon runners at Cheesequake State Park. The overall winner of the 6.5 mile trail race was Dominic Grillo in a time of 38:45 and for the women it was JSRC's Karen Charles in a time of 51:33. Another fine job dome by Mark Griggs and all the other volunteers and a great post race party of lots of pizza and liquid refreshments. Among the club finishers were: Karen Charles 51:33; Lisa Hurd 1:03; Brian Marley 54:00; Andrew Nasto 49:22; Marilyn Ryder 1:16:16; Bob Both 1:00:05; Bob Gilski 1:21:03; Dan Fabrizio 46:25
The
Club's Navesink Challenge 15K and 5K are the Big Ones this coming Sunday,
November 16th. The 15K includes scenic back roads through the Navesink
Section of Middletown and trails through Huber Woods. There are several
"challenging" hills along the course which will test the ability of
every runner. Its about the most scenic course at the Jersey Shore. The 15 K is also a part of the Jersey Shore Grand Prix of
Races. The 5K is run on the back road and is also a very scenic course
with a hill thrown in for good measure. There will be lots of awards,
random prizes as well as a Post Race Party at the Outback Steakhouse.
Entrants receive a great looking Dri-Release type of moisture wicking long sleeve
shirt which will be perfect for running on the chilly fall days. The race
benefits the Middletown Youth Athletic Association and Habitat for Humanity. Get
an application, instructions and more information on the Navesink
Challenge Web Page.
Our Spring/Summer/Fall at Holmdel Park seemed to go by so
fast. It feels like we just made
the transition from our Golden Donuts’ Saturdays to our “traditional”
Wednesdays. Thanks to many, and
Marti Rettino in particular, we had a great season at Holmdel Park.
A total of 55 different JSRC Members made at least one known appearance
on Wednesday evenings – some of you may not even realize that you made it on
the list! We have lots of friends
in low places (squirrels, woodchucks, chipmunks, etc.) helping to report on
attendance so that no one would feel slighted.
The culmination of our season on October 22 was followed by an informal “awards” ceremony at the Court Jester on Route 34 in Aberdeen Township. More than a dozen of us got together to celebrate, and to “honor” the deserving recipients of our newly created awards. In the spirit of the Golden Donuts and in keeping with the imminent Halloween festivities, we bestowed Funky Punkin’ medallions to our three winners. Nicolas Vanier, Wayne Baker and Marti Rettino were recognized for attending more than 20 (out of 29 possible) Wednesday evening Club Runs. These awards, in keeping with “tradition,” were handcrafted by a local artist (my nine year old daughter, Annie), and reflected the Halloween theme.
Nancy Garsick, the second most famous person originally from South Amboy and still the Hoffman High School Women's Basketball Scoring Champion not to mention veteran of several marathons, has moved to a new position as a dental hygienist at Lincroft Village Dental Care. Her new office is located at 9 Middletown Lincroft Road in Lincroft so if you are looking for an excellent dentist call for an appointment at 732-842-5005
Congratulation
to Sean Kean (shown on the left finishing at the Interlaken 5K) who was
just elected to the State Assembly from District 11 in Monmouth County.
Sean is a long time JSRC Member and frequent participant at local races and a
regular on the Spring Lake and Belmar Boardwalks. He was also one of our
sponsors of our Summer Series Post Race Pizza Party.
