Its not too early to gear up fore your planned Fall Marathon or Half Marathon. As we always do our Sunday Runs at Bodman Park are an excellent location to get your training in. The course is mostly shaded from the summer sun and has plenty of water stops, good company at all paces and post run refreshments. We meet every Sunday at Bodman Park in Middletown which is just off of Navesink River Road. We run on back roads and trails with very little car traffic so its a safe place to run. Start your training at an upcoming Sunday Run. Runs start at 8 AM and in the summer the long run group usually goes out early to beat the heat.

The rain did not deter the runners at the 17th Annual Rumson 5 Mile Run on Sunday, May 3rd. A large field participated in the 5 Mile race as well as the accompanying fun run and kids races. The Jersey Shore Running Club has been associated with the event since its inception and many club members helped out and participated in the Jersey Shore tradition always held on the first Sunday in May in tribute to AJ Bruder a stand out runner from Rumson Fair Haven HS who tragically passed away at a young age still in his prime.
Coming in first for the men shown on the left in a time of 24:54 was Hector Rivera of Fajardo, Puerto Rico followed by Robert Cavenaugh in a time of 26:18. For the women shown on the right it was Megan Guiney of NYC in a time of 28:44 who was followed by her twin sister Catherine Robbie in a time of 28:58. There have been cases of Swine Flu Reported in Monmouth County and New York City. While as runners we should not over react some basic pre cautions should be heeded.
Be careful in confined or crowded spaces like at race registration or expos where there may be people who could have been exposed to the flu. When taking water at water stops exercise caution as people working the water stops could have been exposed. Same for post race refreshments and award ceremonies. Use hand sanitizers in porta johns. Avoid crowded busses and public transportation.
Running in endurance events presents extra concern as the body's immune system is jeopardized making one more susceptible to infection. So exercise some common sense pre cautions.
The club is in need of a laptop computer to keep club information. If anyone has an old laptop that they don't need or their company has replaced. Let Laura at colorado66@hotmail.com know.
The donation as any donation to the club could be tax deductible as we are a 501c(3) organization. But check your tax advisor.
