It was a beautiful day at the Jersey Shore on Saturday, May 26th. The annual Spring Lake 5 and Spring Lake 5 Kid's Races the night before kicked off the summer shore season. 9000 runners lined up on Ocean Avenue for the start, wound their way through town and along Third Avenue Downtown around the Lakes of Spring lake and a finish on Ocean Avenue. It was a bit on the warm side so some times may have been a bit slower than previous year's but the winner's times did not appear to suffer. Coming in first for the men was Robert Cannon of Toms River shown on the left in a time of 24:46 and for the women it was Noel Brock also of Toms River shown on the right in a time of 28:16.
Some 2000 kid's from ages 1 to 13 participated in the Kid's Races along Ocean Avenue on Friday Evening.
Congratulations to The Friends of the Spring Lake 5, Race Director, Phil Hinck and all the volunteers who made for another memorable day at the Jersey Shore.

We could still use a few more volunteers for the 3rd Annual
Reebok Grand Prix Track and Field event
on Saturday, June 2, 2007. The event is a world class track and field event
venue at Randal's Island in NY City.
We volunteered at this event last year and have been invited back by event
organizers. No previous experience is necessary as the
tasks involved all the way from selling tickets to the event, handing out
programs, escorting the world class runners to the start, maybe even
holding the finishing tape (see the photo) and general
setup of the event logistics.
All volunteers will get a pair racing running shoes, a
golf shirt and a hat. Also provided will be snacks and drinks. You will
also have the opportunity to take in most of the event - particularly the
premiere events.
The club will provide a luxury bus to bring us there and back. It will be
from Lincroft/Red Bank GSP commuter parking lot. The cost of the bus trip will be $20. Club will provide additional soda and snacks
for the trip. The event starts at 5 pm and goes until 9 pm.
The bus will leave the commuter lot at 1:30 PM pm so we are there around
2:30 pm to help
with the organization. We will leave after the event completes. There will be a
post race Reggae Concert so we may stay for a while to party.
