ING NYC Marathon Lottery Deadline Fast Approaching

Tick tock, tick tock. That's the sound of the deadline approaching to get your name into the lottery for the 2005 ING NYC Marathon. Cut-off for U.S. residents is midnight on June 1. If you want to be one of the 40,000 or so people lining up in Staten Island this fall, don't delay any longer. See www.ingnycmarathon.com for more info.

JSRC To Clean Up at Spring Lake

It takes a lot of volunteers to Put on This Race

So you didn't get into Spring Lake, but you'd still like to have that award winning shirt, the 2005/2006 Spring Lake Race Calander and the designer pint glass.  Well there is a way to have it all!

Yes,  Simply volunteering with the rest of the JSRC'ers helping with crowd control at the start and  clean up along Ocean Avenue after the Race- mostly breaking down boxes and picking up cups. .  We meet at 7 AM sharp at the windfeather and find out what exciting paraphernailia can be left behind by 10,000 runners and friends.  (be sure to ask Rick Valentine what he found last year.)

This is one of the largest donations to the club for our efforts.  So proudly wear your orange colors and come on down for some good clean fun.  The more volunteers we have the faster the assignment goes.

We then head over to Bar A to critique the event with some libations.

Hope to see you all there on Saturday, May 28th .  ps,  parking goes very quickly, so get there early for a good spot.

If you are running in the Race - you can still help out - just stop by the club tent after the race - and don't forget to sign in and report your time/.

Club Member Phil Hinck is the Race Director so come on out and show your support.

Some of the many Club Members Before the Start of the Special Olympics

Despite the Threat of a "Noreastrer" and heavy rain a large contingent of loyal JSRC's made their way out to Toms River to support the Monmouth Ocean County Special Olympics track and Field Event.  The rain held off and toward the end of the day the sun was shining on the many participants and volunteers - keeping alive a streak of no rain on the Special Olympics for at least the last 15 years.

Again thanks to everyone who came out and showed the club colors.

Georgia Jogger Runs 1421 Miles

Ready for NYC Marathon - but misses Wedding

Read About It Here     --- Authorities Investigating if She Cheated and Took the Bus

Jennifer Wilbanks the now world famous jogger apparently got lost on a run last Tuesday and would up running 1451 miles from some little town in Georgia where they apparently have no signs all the way to Alberqueque, New Mexico to do some altitude training.  So for all you runners out there who run alone - take this a a lesson and make sure that you run with a group and check out the Club Group Runs - less you get lost and miss some important date too.

Visiting Runner Seeks Lodging

Michael Frei who has been frequenting the Club Runs is here from Switzerland and plans to be here for 18 months working in conjunction with an educational program in the Middletown area.  Mike is a 2:30 marathoner - he is fast!.  He and his friend are looking for a place to stay.  If anyone knows of a reasonable place in the Middletown area please feel free to contact him at micotitolino@bluewin.ch.

One of the Five Starts at this Year's Jersey Shore Relay

It was a bright sunny day along the Jersey Shore for the 9th Annual Jersey Shore Relay.  The winds were certainly a factor coming directly from the North into the faces of the runners as they made their way from Seaside Heights to the finish in Asbury Park,  The first pace team was The Rutgers Road Runners, captained by Eddie Jimenez of New Brunswick.  They traversed the 27 mile course in a time of 2:40:47.  They were followed closely by the College of New Jersey Alumni who competed in the School Division and finished in 2:43:57.  The Open Women's Team was Runner's High which completed the course in 2:52:27. The first Iron Finisher - completing the entire course on his own was Christopher Bannitt of South Orange who completed the course in 3:37:12.  After the Relay runners were treated to a huge party at the Stone Pony. The place was jammed with runners who were entertained by Hunter Hayes.

Chris and Bernadette Wilcox were recognized as the top fund raiser for the event.  Photo above on the right with one of the checks - Chris personally matched his sponsors donations for a total contribution of over $25,000.

the skies were bright blue. the air we breathed crisp and clean as we rounded sandy hook with vista of new york city and sightings of an occassional yachtsman or boater with their crafts launched for the first time this season; and cow bell boy clanging and clanging and clanging. the sun warm on our faces and bodies. affordingwith ocean breezes wafting. the waves crashing and splashing sparkling mists that twinkled and sparkled in all that brilliant sunlight.

just reeeeeeeeal special for me to be running through the finish line area headed south as the marathon winner headed north to break the tape. kind of cool to watch him lift his arms and break the tape.

hey look, there's todd byers, the barefoot runner who made me do it six miles of the frederick marathon last year. "hey! how ar ya's?" to the www.marathonmaniacs.com at the start and whoo hooing the black and yellow clad maniacs along the 6 miles of the out and around the buffet table in deal.

i relished being on my surf and turf and hearing my name yelled by friends and the jersey shore running clubbers and clubettes.

"theres no place like home. there's no place like home." i exclaimed with glee at the well attended finish line.

and later... after a celebratory bar-b-que in point pleasant. click clicked the heels at mix til 2 am.

YES! THE ADVIL WORKED.
