Since the course for the Asbury Park Half Marathon has been posted on the web site a few days ago we have had several comments relative to the three loop course. Based on those comments we will be giving runners the option of doing a Certified One Loop out and back course which will have the same start and finish but instead of turning in Avon it will continue south into Belmar, Spring Lake and then turn around in Sea Girt. This course will also be certified however there will be no assurance that the bridge from Avon to Belmar will not open and cause a short few minute delay and absolutely no adjustment will be made in finish times. We will have water stops and course marshal's but all the miles may not be marked.
While we can not guarantee that the bridge won't open - the chances of it happening are not that high at this time of the year - but it is a risk that the participants need to assess. There are also two steps up to the Belmar boardwalk and two steps down that runners should be aware of.
Since both courses will be USATF Certified they can be used to qualify for the NYC Marathon and participants in both courses will be scored together with awards irrespective of the course.
We will be sending an email to all registered runners in the Half Marathon and we will have information at the registration and number pick up on Friday evening before the race at Convention Hall and day of starting at 7 AM at Convention Hall..

Remember when the temps fall below freezing the Club buys hot chocolate for all that run. Looks like it will be a good bet this Thursday - so stop by at 6 PM at the Dunkin Donuts at 16th and Ocean Avenue for your free hot chocolate with whipped cream on top after the run - if it is below freezing..
We meet at the Windmill across from Seven President's Park in Long Branch at 6:00 p.m. We do a 4-6 mile run along the boardwalk and around Lake Takanasseee passing the Dr. George Sheehan Memorial. The group runs are fun and a great way to meet other runners and exchange training tips or just have company on a run
The Club will again be marching in the Belmar St Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 1st. Watch the web site for details on where to meet etc.
