Asbury Park Half Marathon Update

Course Options - Registration Still Open

Map of Three Loop Course

Map of Single Out and Back Course - Note Bridge May Open on This Course

Since the course for the Asbury Park Half Marathon has been posted on the web site a few days ago we have had several comments relative to the three loop course. Based on those comments we will be giving runners the option of doing a Certified One Loop out and back course which will have the same start and finish but instead of turning in Avon it will continue south into Belmar, Spring Lake and then turn around in Sea Girt.  This course will also be certified however there will be no assurance that the bridge from Avon to Belmar will not open and cause a short few minute delay and absolutely no adjustment will be made in finish times.  We will have water stops and course marshal's but all the miles may not be marked.

While we can not guarantee that the bridge won't open - the chances of it happening are not that high at this time of the year - but it is a risk that the participants need to assess. There are also two steps up to the Belmar boardwalk and two steps down that runners should be aware of.

Since both courses will be USATF Certified they can be used to qualify for the NYC Marathon and participants in both courses will be scored together with awards irrespective of the course.

We will be sending an email to all registered runners in the Half Marathon and we will have information at the registration and number pick up on Friday evening before the race at Convention Hall and day of starting at 7 AM at Convention Hall..

50K Hat Run

Participants who completed the Hat 50K

The HAT 50k is a trail ultramarathon run in the Susquehanna State Park in Maryland.  It is the biggest 50k on the east coast and the third largest 50k in the country.  A large jersey shore contingent raced at HAT this year.  Conditions were almost perfect with temperatures peaking in the upper 40s and clear skies.  Relatively dry conditions for the week before the race made for muddy but fairly runnable singletrack trails.  The 4 stream crossings were less treacherous than in some previous years but still provided quite a challenge.  Pictured left to right with finishing times in hrs and minutes - Susan Grant- 7:07, David Stretanski- 5:55, Marge Ascari- 6:14, Johnny Rodriguez- 5:58, Jon Brodsky- 6:26, Frank Terranova- 5:54, Gary Krebs- 5:51, Rich Schuler- 6:29
