JSRC has been asked if we would like to help out at the Reebok Grand Prix Track and Field Meet to be held on June 3rd at the New Randall's Island Icahn Stadium in New York City. The event will need volunteers who would be tasked with things like hurdle crew, staffing VIP's areas and distributing water, etc. All volunteers will get a Reebok polo shirt and a pair of running shoes and the chance to hang with/watch some of the world's best.
If someone would like to volunteer to coordinate the Club's Support or just interested in volunteering please email jsrc@hotmail.com

A huge field for this years Freehold St Paddy's Day Races put on by the Freehold Area Running Club. The sun shined bright on the field of runners many in green with a spattering of JSRC Orange in between. It was a little chilly with a cool north west wind but the runners put in some good times for the 10 Miler and accompanying 5K on the hilly course which started and finished in Tighe Park in Freehold Township. In the 10 Miler it was Bill Hoffman coming in first for the men in a time of 52:19 and for the women it was Christy DeFillipis in a time of 1:04:43

Just a few words about this event. I spent my summers there growing up. The scenery is great, and the drop is wonderful! I encourage anyone to see the wonderful Pocono's this way. I am planning on getting a JSRC banner and get permission to hang it on the left hand side in front of the tennis courts so everyone will have a good view, Unfortunately, you will not realize when you get close to the bottom of the drop there is a great natural spring where a lot of people "bottle up". Evian has nothing on this water. After the drop is where I will be, with a banner, dressed in Orange (of course!)cheering our club members on. Maybe I can get Norm to stand on the other side of the road for any member that needs a potty break (not a porta potty but real plumbing but hush on that as it is a private place) where being female does not mean one has to be an acrobat due to men who aim poorly. If I was still able, I would suggest a warm-up in my area that would have part of the run near the water falls that are on the property of this association as well as a great run up the mountain. I started running there and as Billy Crystal says, lt's mahvelous, simply mahvelous! I would run up the mountain first, as I had fresh legs and it would get my motor going. After you get through Paradise Valley, you get to Henryville. Its a little hiccup of a town that has seen Presidents and Annie Oakley as visitors. The rest will see you go through some of the tacky Honeymoon resorts, but it is still interesting. Course is great. Hope to catch some members. Deana MacLean-Roberts

A list of registered teams has been posted. If you sent in your entry in the last week or so it may not be on the list yet. We'll update the list periodically. There are still openings in the Relay but its filling up fast and we will close it down once the limit is reached - plus the price goes up on April 1st.but it looks like it will be closed out by that date in either case. We would like all teams to pre-register before April 1 so we can set up the start times and send out information packets. The information packets will go in the mail early April.
Remember if you are interested in running the entire 26.2 Mile course on your own we will have busses available to take you to the start from the finish area. Reserve your spot on the bus by April 1st to make sure we have enough room.
And for anyone who is interested we also have a 3 mile Fitness Walk and Fun Run which starts and finishes at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
You can register on line for the Individual 26.2 Mile Run and the Fitness Walk at JerseyRunner.com
A fund raising site is set up on Active.com to assist teams with their fund raising.

It
was a cold and blustery morning for the E. Murray Todd Half Marathon

Lincroft who finished in 1:25:57. Congratulations to the Parks Department
and all the volunteers along the course who stood out there in the cold weather
supporting the runners..

The Jersey Shore Running Club held its annual party at the beautiful Barclay in Belmar this past Saturday night. The large field danced, drank and ate the night away in celebration of another noteworthy year of accomplishments. . Awards were presented and all the Race Director's of JSRC Events were recognized for their efforts. The Year was reviewed with a photo show of highlights from the past year and Keith Miller (see story below) was honored for his bravery in rescuing someone drowning in the Ocean off of Avon. Barbara Hay was recognized for her many efforts in support of the Club to include here editing of the Award Winning Club Newsletter and acting as volunteer coordinator.
The newly elected officers were introduced for 2006 led by Dave Zurheide who we believe is something like the Fifteenth President of the Club. The party went on through the night with some members seen dancing on the tables - see the photo album or show for all the details.
It was a typical winter morning weather wise here at the Jersey Shore for the Second Annual Mid Winter Beach Run held this past Saturday in Manasquan. The huge crowd necessitated starting the runners on the road where they ran North and then turned around onto the Manasquan Boardwalk and then onto the beach for a really tough run on the soft sand. The post race party was jammed packed at Legget's where runners were treated to an assortment of refreshments and awards were presented. Congratulations to Mary O'Brien for organizing a really spectacular event. Thanks to all the JSRC and Manasquan First Aid Volunteers for making the race possible.

While doing his regular Saturday Run with JSRC Members Bill Koch, Mary Moriarty, Jeannane McFadden and Bob Rosa, Keith Miller rescued a distraught swimmer that he spotted in need of help off the Avon boardwalk. Keith did not hesitate in jumping into the ocean (with his running shoes, tights, and clothes) to rescue the individual who he spotted while the group was doing their regular Saturday Run starting in Asbury Park. . Without Keith's bravery the poor soul would most likely not have made it. Congrats to Keith - a Real Hero!.
