Condolences to Club Member Barbara Keenen on the passing of her mother, Margerat Feeney. Arrangements and the Obituary are in the Asbury Park Press Here.
A great day for a run - a bit on the chilly side but not much wind for the runners and plenty of sun shined on the the 29th running of the E. Murray Half Marathon. For the men the overall winner was Rob DeFillipis of Tinton Falls in a time of 1:11:55.
For the women it was Club Member Diane Petruzzelli of Lincroft in a time of 1:26:56. For Diane it was a big win. Although she has always been a runner she has only been competing in races for the past year and has become increasingly successful. She tied for second in her age group at the Meridian Jersey Shore Grand Prix and was the second woman finisher at the Jersey Shore Half Marathon. Diane's family was out at the finish line to cheer her to victory - Congratulations!
And Congratulations to the Monmouth County Park System for another great event.
Some of the many club finishers included:
Diane Petrruzelli 1:26:56, Ken Vercammen 1:27:15, Mark Griggs 1:35:56, Ed Alburtus 1:38:09, Tim Horn 1:24:06, Nancy Thorne 1:44:29, Wayne Baker 1:34:15, Larry Sinkovich 1:43:12, Graham Wisdom 1:46:50, Simone Tellini 2:02, John Molta 2:03:55, Jennifer Gunn 1:35:07, Adele McDonough 1:33:50, Mike Baker 1:44:50, Alison Baker 1:47:04, Matt Sodano 1:49:52, Paula Crane 2:04:08; Russ Stallone 1:39:50(1ag); Sutah Robins 1:48:39; Jon Feinstein 1:58:55; Tom Natoli 2:11:48

The above races conclude my February swing through the Florida Gulf Coast circuit. While it has been rumored that my uncharacteristic dedicated off season training this year has been all about working toward avoiding being shutout by Tim Mahoney again this year in the summer series, I would like to share with my fellow club members some interesting results from my training and racing research which was really the focus of my attention.
1. Corona beer with lime vs. without lime. Neither scenario showed significant advantages or disadvantages to improving running performance. Both suffered significant foaming and loss of contents during the first mile or so. Cans faired better than bottles, though your results may vary depending on how you swing your arms. It was that close.
2. Cabernet vs. Pinoir. Again a tie, though the Sonoma Valley region as a whole faired somewhat better than Central Coast in day after performance from the night before which quite frankly had me looking forward to tomorrow each time. Give me a beer anytime. My running partner threatened to quit if anyone ordered Merlot.
3. Key Lime pie vs. seven layer death by chocolate. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner....key lime pie is the food of champions. The hands down winner. After sharing our results with some other corporate health nuts, we expect to see Key Lime "Juice" at a GNC store near you in the very near future.
4. Finally, and this was the test that I put the most time and effort into: The 5 o'clock martini with stuffed blue cheese olives showed significant overall benefits to inducing better rest and relaxation of crucial motor muscles over the standard pimiento stuffed olive martini. To verify that lunar gravitational pull was not a contributing variable to this scientific study, I also performed this test at 6,7 8, and 9 pm. Trust me, I got it covered.
Other random notes of interest: Jersey water tastes WAY better than Gatorville, FL oranges are smaller and more difficult to peel than Jersey...go figure, FL race awards ALWAYS start with the 75 and over age bracket and work their way down to the youngsters, these guys wouldn't stand a chance on the Brielle course, and finally....you have to like the tatoo's here. See you at Sgt. Pats!
Our Friends in Hoboken have unveiled their brand new Web Site. They host runs in Hoboken on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. When in the area check them out.
Despite the Snow Storm on Thursday Evening a decent turn out of about a dozen regular Thursday Runners. Some may think we are crazy but all had fun on the run - and of course since the temperature was below freezing - free hot chocolate with loads of delicious whipped cream after the run inside Dunkin Donuts.

Tom Morrison presided over his first meeting as President of the Jersey Shore Running Club this past Tuesday taking over from outgoing President Bill Koch. Tom promised to keep all his campaign promises - although he does not remember what they were.
Tom is in the center of the second row holding a glass in his left hand and his right hand on his throat sporting a brand new hair cut for the occasion - note the reflection from the flash.
The Club's Sunday Run is one of our most popular group runs. If you ran this last Sunday check out all the photos at the start, along the course and the finish. If you have never done the Sunday Run check what you have been missing. A great scenic course with great company for the Long Run!
Most runners will be at the E Murray Todd next Sunday but the whole crew should be back at Bodman Park in two weeks on Sunday, March 6.
