The Wheelchair Start of the Belmar 5

It was a great day for a run through the Jersey Shore town of Belmar.  With over 3000 participants this year it was one of the largest Belmar Fives in its 30 year history.  The weather must have contributed to some pretty fast times and possible course records.  The men's winner was Solomon Too (finishing on le left) in a time of 24:53 and for the women it was Clara Horowitz of Rumson (on the right) in a spectacular time of.27:12.

Among the many club finishers were:

Carol Irwin  42:25, Marty McEnroe  40:05, Simone Tellini  43:15,  Pat Cavanaugh  34:04, Susan Grant  43:00, Ted Duda  39:40,  Robert Galizio  35:41,  Theresa McKean  43:15, Mike Washakowski  36:15, Tina Duda  1:17:00,  Jim Kropke  49:40,  Laura Schneider  53:05,  Karen Charles  31:00(1st AG, 1st F Belmar Resident), Bob Flannery  35:38,  Ray Soehngen  47:18,  Will DeRoberts  30:50,  Donna Mehler  55:32, Mike Glasset 35:22, Graham Wisdom 37:14, Ralph Garfield  38:45(1ag)

Start of the Kid's Mile at the Thursday Night Summer Series

Another good turnout for week 4 of the JSRC's Thursday Night Summer Series.  The conditions were a lot better with more moderate evening temperatures.

The Series continues next Thursday with the Half Mile for Kid's 9 and Under, Mile for Kid's under 14 and the Open 3 Miler.  All Invited.

Remember to participate in the final week which is a handicap race you need to have run in at least one race.  The final night is the last Thursday in July.  For the three mile run we will have a handicap start based on your fastest time during the year.  Please get to the Registration area early on that night so we can get started as soon as possible.  We will plan to have the slowest runners leave starting at about 6:45.  Kids half mile and mile will go off as usual but we will try to add in a little twist to make it fun for all.  Series awards will be presented and we will have a post race pizza party.

The Start of the Kid's Half Mile for 9 and Under

Another large turn out for the third week of the Club's Summer Series.  It was a nice evening for a run and there were some new winners in many of the events. Results are posted with points for the series.  We have a new scoring system which gives points for the overall male/female place (10 for first, 9 for second, etc with 1 point for all)  as well as the age group place in the same manner.

The Series Continues next Thursday with the Kids Races at 6:30 PM and the Open 3 Mile at 7 PM. Come on out - and get those points. With the new scoring system everyone has a chance at winning and we will go at least 3 deep in each age group with series awards.

If you have not participated you can still come out and run an individual event and qualify to run our series ending handicap race.

The weather in the north east this weekend threatened most out door events, however the third annual Ryan’s Run attracted over 450 participants..245 runners completed the 5k and over 100 children competed in the kids races. It rained ALL day Saturday in Middletown, except during our event!!

Our sponsors and the great group of competitive runners that join us each year create a terrific and special running event said Andy Kaiser race director.  The 5k event that includes a scenic cross country loop is one of the best race courses I have ever ran said Diane Petruzzelli of Lincroft NJ who finished in 19:08. This is one of the most organized events of the year, and the setting for the pre race party, and awards ceremony on a private farm makes it a great place to bring the kids said Nancy Aboff of Llyod Harbor NY.

NJ International Track Meet

Seeking Masters Runners for 4 X 800 Team(s)

As usual, I am organizing JSRC's efforts to enter Masters teams in the NJ International on Saturday, June 10.  Yes, it is the same day as The Sheehan Classic, so I am facing more challenges than usual.

The goal is to field at least one Masters Men's team (and maybe a Women's team) for the event.  As you can guess, we need four (4) respectable runners to field each team.  The event takes place in the afternoon, so it is possible to run both Sheehan and NJ International (although I do not recommend it)!  If you are interested, please e-mail me (DRZurheide@aol.com) by Sunday, May 21.  The cost per person is a mere $5.

Please also consider running the Mary Conry Memorial Women's Mile in the Meet.  As you know, JSRC is sponsoring this event in memory of our beloved departed Club member.  You can run it as a serious competitive event, or jog it with a group (women AND men).  Either way. your support is encouraged.   Thanks for your consideration,  Z President
