
A huge field of over 1600 runners for this year's Sea Girt 5K held on Sunday, August 3rd. The sun shined bright and cool ocean breezes made it comfortable for the racers. The start was at the train station in town and the runners went along the Sea Girt Army Camp toward the ocean front and around town to finish back back at the train station.
The men's winner shown on the left was Robert Cavenaugh in a time of 15:51 and for the women it was Dianne Deoliviera of Brick who "BREEZED" to a finish in 18:51..
After the 1600 plus runners finished awards were handed out to the top finishers as well as the age groups and the top Sea Girt finishers. A vast assortment of refreshments were available in the park along side the railroad station.
Kids races then were held with another great turn out of several hundred spirited children who rambled down the street to the finish at the various distances. All were treated to ice cream after they finished.

Pedro Espenosa and Amber Hart were the top finishers in this year's Neptune City 5K held on Saturday, August 2nd. The race started at the Fire House and wound through the tree lined streets of Neptune City which included a few hills along the way. It then finished at the park overlooking the Shark River where awards and post race refreshments were served. The mayor of Neptune City presided.over the festivities.

The
Jersey Shore Running Club's Wall Summer Series concluded on Thursday July 24th at the Wall Municipal
Complex. Youth Half Mile Race was held as usual and the One Mile Race was
run in reverse. In the 3 mile open race a handicap was applied based on
the fastest time during the series. Awards were presented to the top
finishers as they crossed the finish line.
For the series the age group and overall winners in the open three mile and one mile were recognized.
Pictured on the left are this Year's Three Mile Series Champions - Pat Ford of Neptune and Suzanne Neglia of Wall.
In the One Mile the Series Champions were Sammy Lucid for the Boys and Megan O'Dowd for the Girls.
Clarence Lurch of Wall continued for the Sixth straight year as the 80 - 89 year age group champion.

Anyone interested in some cross training opportunities. Every Monday at 6 PM a group does a 10 to 15 Mile bike ride followed by a 3 to 5 mile run. They meet at the parking lot at South End of the Spring Lake Boardwalk - known as Pier Beach on Brown Avenue. On Wednesday at 6 PM a group plans to do an ocean swim in Belmar - conditions permitting. They meet across the street from the 7 - 11 on Ocean Avenue. All are invited - these are not official JSRC training events. Info at jsrc@hotmail.com

Congratulations to Laura Demeo for her Hawaii Iron man qualifying performance. Laura completed the 2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Bike Ride and 26.2 Mile Run in a time of 11 hours, 12 minutes and 1 second.

It was a hot start for the 28th running of the traditional Ocean Grove Biathlon . Temperatures were in the 90's for the run through Ocean Grove which started on the south end of town, wound along the ocean front, onto the boardwalk , up to the historic Great Auditorium on Pilgrim Pathway and back along the boardwalk directly to the ocean swim. The participants were able to cool off comfortably in the relatively calm ocean where temperatures were near 70 degrees and were protected by many lifeguards along the short ocean swim.
The overall winner shown finishing the run on the left was Joe Pawlish of Asbury Park finishing in 14:45 and for the women shown in the transition area on the right it was Anna Hogan of Longhorn, Pa who finished in 17:23.
Refreshments were served after the race and awards were presented on many of the age groups.

Get your team ready for the first Annual Boardwalk Relay Against Hunger to be held on Saturday, September 27th in Asbury Park. Its a 3, 2 or 1 person event with three legs of 5K for a total of 15K. It all benefits the Food Banks throughout New Jersey to commemorate National Hunger Awareness Month. It should be a fun filled day with a great post race party at the Stone Pony featuring our friends Golden Seal performing live on their famous stage. And you never know who else may show up.
It was a beautiful morning for this year's Annual Belmar 5 Road Race held this Saturday July 12. The race started on Ocean Avenue and went north along the ocean front and then around Lake Como and through the streets of Belmar, around Silver lake and a finish on the north side of the Lake. The sun shined bright on the runners and the warm weather probably had an effect on many of the thousands who participated.
The men's overall winners was Abraham Ngetich of Kenya in a time of 24:15and for the women it was Buzunesh Deba of Etheopia in a time of 27:36.

Several people have asked if there is any interest in a group swim - we are runners so it will be intermediate at best. We can try for Friday evening at the South end of Spring Lake at about 6 PM. If anyone is interested please email jsrc@hotmail.com. If there is sufficient interest we can start in a few weeks - the water will be warmer by then.

A large group of runners participated in this Year's Firecracker 5 Race held in Wall Township. The race was preceded by a One Mile Fun run and a 3 mile walk was held in conjunction with the 5 Mile Race.
The weatherman cooperated as the traditional hot, sunny humid conditions were replaced by some moderate temperatures with overcast skies which made for some comfortable racing through the streets of Wall Township. The race started and finished in front of the Wall Municipal Complex on Allaire Road and wound around onto 18th Avenue and some side streets in the town.
The Men's winner shown breaking the tape on the left was Dominic Grillo in a time of 27:32 and for the women shown finishing on the right it was Amanda Marino in a time of 30:22.

The Club's Summer Series continued into Week 2 with some nice running weather for the second straight week. New faces at the series resulted in new winners. In the Kid's 1 Mile it was Sammy Lucid and Megan O'Dowd coming in first. In the Open 3 Miler it was Mike O'Dowd and Barbara Jean Brennan. In addition a large group of 9 and under ran and all were winners.
Stop at the Goodwill Fire Company in Belmar located at 610 7th Avenue in Belmar after the race to pick up your Belmar 5 Packet or register for the race. Refreshments are served.

By now many of you have received notification that you were accepted into the NYC Marathon - Congratulations!
It is not too early to start thinking about your transportation to and from the marathon.
The Club will again be offering busses to the start and a convenient pick up just outside Central Park again this year.
The busses will leave from the Commuter Parking Lot at the Red Bank Exit of the Parkway and make a stop at the Cheesequake Rest Area.
