
It was a real scorcher with temperatures over 90 degrees for the annual Firecracker 5 held on the Fourth of July in Wall Township,. The first overall was Elias DiOliverra who seemed undeterred by the weather in a time of 26:51. For the women it was JSRC's Jane Erbe who finished in 35:31. It appeared that nearly everyone's times were slowed by a few minutes due to the heat. Club Finishers included:

Joints in Motion is starting programs for several fall marathons. The group raises money for the Arthritis Foundation. A large contingent of Club Members participated in this past weekends NYRRC 5 Mile Race in Central Park. The Club Teams are doing terrific. The Master's Team took second place and is now firmly in second place for the series. The veterans team also took second and is in third place but creeping up on second place. The next race is Sunday, July 7, the Bronx Half-Marathon. Get registration information on the NYRRC Web Site. When you register make sure you list JSRC as your team. Summer Series participants were treated to a special guest appearance at week 3 of the Series of 3 Mile Races. A large group of runners met the challenge and beat the 20:29 time which President George W. Bush finished in last Saturday. Coming in first was the "President" closely followed by Dave DeMonico in a time of 16:10. For the women it was Diane DiOliveira in 19:08. In the Kids Half Mile for 9 and Under John Scotto and Julia Ford led all runners and in the Mile for 14 and Under Bendon Pierson in 5:39 and Allison Linnell in 6:03 were top finishers. The Summer Series will continue on Thursday, July 11th after a break for the Fourth of July and the Firecracker 5. Runners who beat the 20:29 Presidential Standard included:

The Club's Father Day Race was a a spectacular event put on by first time race directors Adele McDonough and Lou "Can Do" M. The weather was ideal for some fast times along the tre lined streets of Wanamassa. The 250 plus runners were led by Dave DeMonico of South River and the Jersey Shore Running Club who finished in a time of 16:20 he was followed by another club member Bob Bythell who finished in 16:48. The 2002 Track Season saw the Wall Track Club enter both national youth track and field associations, and send an unprecedented number of athletes to the State or Regional Championship meets.
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) held it's New Jersey Qualifying meet
at Perth Amboy's Waters Stadium on May 26th and the USA Track and
Field Association (USATF) held its local qualifier the following week at
Long Branch High School. Thirty- nine Wall Track Athletes qualified to
compete in the AAU Regional meet on July 6th at New Brunswick High School with the best track
and field athletes from five states. In the USATF, thirty four Wall Trackers made it to the
Association State Championship in Maplewood's Underhill Field coming up on June 15th.

Bar Anticipation, 703 16th Ave., South Belmar is hosting Comedy Nights on Sunday through JUNE and JULY. Featuring the Country's funniest comedians. Shows start at 8 pm. Opening acts and emcee for all shows.
Admission is FREE to all JSRC Members wearing club clothing. Receive comp ticket from Bill Koch or Jerry Frazee or advise the cashier at the door that you are a member of JSRC and show your "club colors".
It is also "Laugh your Bass off" night with $2.00 bottles of Bass all night.

It was an ideal evening for a "stroll" on the beach for the participants in this year's Beach Run to benefit Clean Ocean Action. Overall winners were Bob Horn of Brick in a time of 17:55 on the mens side (left) and for the women it was Laura Rhatagin of Brant Beach (right) in a time of 20:16 who seemed to just glide over the sandy beach. A group is doing track workouts on Tuesday at 5:45 PM at Middletown South High School. All are welcome to attend. Track work outs can improve your race times and can be fun when done with a group. A group continues to meet on Wednesdays at Point Pleasant Boro HS at 6 PM.
For all those who are planning on running a Fall Marathon the Club's Marathon Training Program will start this coming Sunday, June 16 from Bodman Park in Middletown. We have all paces represented and the course goes over varied terrain including hills which will be great for any marathon. Even if you are not planning on running a marathon the runs are a great way to keep in shape. Plus you will always be ready when you do get the calling! Get the complete schedule here.
