The Jersey Shore Running Club has donated $1000 to the American Red Cross for relief services in Haiti. Club Members are encouraged to support the efforts in any way they can. Most needed is money right now as the logistics of getting things there is difficult..
Shoes in good condition can be dropped off at Miles Ahead on Rt 35 in Wall or at the Running Store in the Grove in Shrewsbury.
On Sunday February 7th - Chill out at the Club's Annual Super Bowl Party to
be held at the Deal Fire House. The Party starts at 4 PM. Refreshments provided

We have a full slate of officers and two members vying for President - Jim Buckler and Jaime Gallagher. Each was asked if they would like to post something on this web site. Below are the responses.
My name is Jaime Gallagher and I am running for the position of Jersey Shore Running Club President. I have been a member of JSRC for 4 years. I joined the club when I moved back home to NJ in 2005 after serving in the Air Force for 4.5 years. I have a lot of leadership and organizational experience from being a military officer, a construction project manager at a global construction firm and now as a civil engineer for the US Army.
I have met SO many great people in JSRC and have enjoyed the races, training runs and the social scene of the club. I have participated in a ton of club races and I am a regular at the Thursday night group run. I have run four marathons and I am also an active
triathlete. For those of you that don’t know me I am very energetic, outgoing and well organized. I lead by example. I am running for president to bring my energy and skills to the club. Even though we have an active and organized running club in the area, we need fresh ideas and a new younger perspective.
Actions speak louder than words. Some of my ideas are:
- Guest speakers and switching up the location of the club meetings more often
- Social functions that aren’t running based like happy hour, ice skating, hiking, reviving the summer dinner cruise
- Organizing groups to run races outside the local area like in DC , NYC or PA
- Stepping up the recruiting efforts to get some new faces in the club
These are just a few of the ideas I would like to implement if I am president. I would like have suggestions to see what you as the members want out of JSRC as this is YOUR club.
I am running for re-election for the position of President of the Jersey Shore Running Club. I have enjoyed this last year representing the club as President and certainly learned a lot. I want to thank all the people who supported me and provided the guidance that helped me throughout the year. The experience of this past year would be an enormous benefit to me representing the JSRC in 2010.
I spent the last year attending and/or participating in as many events as possible, actively recruiting new members and getting the word out about our great club. My family, who all club members, were very supportive of these efforts throughout the year and have been very much involved in running and volunteering at our events. I will continue to encourage all club members to actively recruit their family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. because I feel so strongly that the JSRC has a lot to offer and will only get stronger with increased membership.
The JSRC is first and foremost a running club. The support we bring to various charities and organizations is through the sport of running. I plan on continuing to encourage members to become more involved by becoming race directors, committee members, volunteers as well as JSRC Executive Board Members. This increased involvement will ultimately benefit the organizations we support as well as the
JSRC.
Thank you and I look forward to working with you to make the Jersey Shore Running Club even better in 2010.

I'm long-time back from Jackson Mississippi where I added the Natchez Trace Trail Parkway and the civil war heritage town of Natchez to my itinerary. If you're curious about Jackson MS and their bitter cold marathon (2 degrees!) plus their state-of-emergency, it's all on the attached trip report. Another consistently slow finish time -- 5:49:43 -- January 9, 2010 for the MS Blues Marathon which was my 50th marathon finish.
Since doing the MS Blues Marathon I've been to Kripalu Yoga Retreat in the Berkshires where I've visited many times in the past and never get tired of. It's a spiritual oasis and said to be one of the top ten spas in the country yet it's as austere as is its famous neighbor Canyon Ranch is elegant.
Yet physically this time my yoga retreat was sobering. I ask the reader what they think could be the reason I couldn't keep up with my usual schedule?
Too many marathons and the muscles are thus weak?
Jeff the weight trainer busted my ass the day before the trip?
Age is catching up? Damn but my Medicare forms have arrived!
Other ideas?
I'm home for a few days but leave on Friday to "The Toughest Little Marathon in Texas" in the infamous town of Waco TX -- where there's nothing left of the Branch Dividians but there is a lovely group of serious marathoners and a said-to-be lovely course and certainly a famous race director.
Please keep in touch and I hope you still want to hear of my travels. I enjoy the telling. If you want more info, pictures or past trip reports, fellow Liberty Lady Marathoner Maricar Korff has set up a website at www.LibertyLadies.weebly.com. It's great fun and has links also to Maricar's various videos of our marathon adventures.

Some 300 runners participated in the Annual New Year's Eve Twilight Run held in Lake Como on New Year's Eve. The runners started in front of Bar Anticipation and wound their way through the town and around the Lake and finished back at Bar A.
After the run they were treated to a buffet and open bar as they waited for the count down to 2010 in Ireland.
Congratulations to Race Directors Phil and Penny Hinck who also celebrated their Wedding Anniversary at the Party.
It was a near ideal day for the 47th Annual Polar Bear 5 Mile Race on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Temperatures wee in the upper 40's with sunny skies and with the wind out of the west the runners were blocked from the wind by the shops and restaurants that line the boardwalk. With a large field of about 500 runners it was one of the largest Polar Bear Races in the recent past.
For the men the winner was Matt Forys of Howell in 25:20 and for the women it was Brianna Jackucewicz of Howell in 30:46.
The JSRC Marching Band also made an appearance and led the runners just before the start in a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner with many runners singing that could be heard all the way down the boardwalk to Ocean Grove. The band played for the runners as they turned around just before Convention Hall. The band is still looking for a few members. Anyone interested should email jsrc@hotmail.com
After the race many runners braved the cold ocean temperatures and rough surf and took a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Real Polar Bears!
Congratulations to Shore AC and the many volunteers who made for another memorable event.
