A hardy group of runners did actually show up at Bodman Park for the traditional Sunday Run. Despite the blizzard conditions the group had a very good run.

A great turn out for our first of hopefully many Hot Chocolate Runs this past Thursday with a group of about 40 runners braving the wintry cold on the boardwalk in Belmar and Spring Lake. After the run the group had some really hot chocolate topped with tasty whipped cream and it made the run well worth it. Check this page for our next hot chocolate run.

Come on out to the Club's Group Runs. Its a great way to run safely and stay motivated particularly during the winter months. We have runs on Tuesday in Long Branch starting at 6 Pm from the Windmill across from Seven President's Park, Thursday, 6 PM at Dunkin Donuts across the boarwalk in Belmar, Saturday at 10 AM in Holmdel Park and Sunday at 8 AM in the Navesink Section of Middletown. Always a great group of runners with all paces represented - so you will always have someone to run with - it makes the run go a lot quicker.

Despite torrential downpours, the Club's weekly Saturday Run from Holmdel Park kicked off with a "splash". The small (eight people actually showed up) but enthusiastic group traversed the hilly course which is protected from the wind (but not the rain) and will be returning next week and throughout the winter. Come on out for the run next week ( even if it rains). Afterward the runners warmed up beside a large fire inside the Activity Center and were treated to "golden" donuts courtesy of Dave. Remember the Run starts at 10 AM every Saturday - rain, snow or shine.
The Spring Marathon training program is now underway at our regular Sunday Run meeting Place in Middletown starting and finishing at Bodman Park. The Runs cover some scenic and hilly back road trails and roads and are a great way to get in shape for whatever event you are planning. All paces are represented and the distance will increase to 20 plus miles later in the program to build you up for your marathon. It's a great way to stay motivated and lots of fun to run with a friendly group. The first run will be about 9 Miles and all paces are represented. . For directions to our meeting place click here. The group will leave at 8 AM. There are bathrooms, plenty of refreshments along the way and special treats after the run.

Some
200 runners participated in the first annual New Year's Eve Fun Run and Walk in
Lake Como (formerly South Belmar). The run went around Lake Como into
Spring Lake to the Ocean Front and returned back along Lake Como to the finish
at Bar Anticipation. Many of the participants sported costumes to celebrate the
occasion in style. The runners were treated to a great party to include a buffet
with a carving station and an open bar. There was some great music, dancing,
lots of prizes and a fun time for all.
Congratulations to Phil and Penny Hinck ( on the left) the organizers who also celebrated their Sixth Wedding Anniversary at the event
Net Proceeds of the run will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Effort.
In addition to the New Year's Eve Run the Club also had a large contingent of runners represented at the Annual NYC Midnight Run in NYC. -

How about a race where there’s no entry fee and you record your own time? No boring neighborhood streets, nary a automobile or truck in sight on the entire course. This is a trail run without the normal stress of a formal race. There is even a shorter course if you run out of gas early. After the contest all runners (survivors) begin drinking and socializing at a nearby watering hole where men drink On -On brews for a $5 charge while women 21-69 may imbibe without any need for currency. You must be over 21 to participate. The race is the 4th Annual running of the Freezing Cold Hash 4-6 Mile Run in Edison. The downside is that the course could be used for a reality television show like Fear Factor or Survivor. The race is the brainchild of the Rumson Hash House Harriers, who also promote the more famous Cheesquake Park Hashathon every November. The Rumson group is comprised of real Hashers who revel in running in the worst conditions that Mother Nature can provide, in swamps and wooded area’s that have been snatched from hungry developers. It’s a dead-heat between their two main objectives in life, running and having fun.
This year’s renewal will travel through the woods of Edison on an off road course that is laid out with baking flour. "The race will start this Saturday at 10:17 a.m. in front of 2053 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison near the Post Office" informs race director Ken Vercammen. Look for a group of runners in old running clothes standing in front of the Hasher Banner. After the event, look for a group of aged runners in tattered running outfits staggering towards a nearby watering hole."Everyone regroups at the nearby Green Derby Bar on Woodbridge Avenue where runners can feast on traditional tentacles, pigeon and a mystery animal." threatens Vercammen. Certainly sounds like an out take from the Fear Factor. Vercammen is s fast drinker and even faster runner who can run 18 minute 5K with his eyes closed. I consistently do that in my sleep as well. Now if I could only duplicate that when I’m awake.
So put a fiver in your oldest running outfit and point your worst training shoes toward Edison for a group run to remember. Who knows? You may have secretly been a hasher all along.
I met Kim for the first time via the telephone. She was a woman with pride, working daily overtime to make the best life for her children. Kim was always on the giving side of charity, donating her time and giving whatever she could afford to help those in need.
Kim suddenly became the only source of financial and emotional support to her family. She found herself on the opposite side of charity. It was receiving that she needed.
When Raman and I delivered the wonderful gifts donated by everyone in JSRC, Kim was so overwhelmed that she burst out crying. She found it hard to contain herself. Kim could not believe that we not only came to her aid, but that we went over and above her wildest hope. The members of JSRC supplied generous gifts, food, and certificates, while still having enough money left to pay the heating bill for several months. We made Christmas for Kim and her family, but so much more than that, we made a difference!
Polar bears came out to the newly rebuilt Asbury Park Boardwalk and the weather fully cooperated for the event with temperature below freezing and an overcast sky with snow flurries in the air. The course was entirely on the beautiful boardwalk and through Convention Hall. The winners of the Five Mile Race were Walt Kingsbury in a time of 26:41 and for the women it was Lindsay Gallo in a time of 29:50. After the race a large contingent of the runners took a dip in the Atlantic Ocean in keeping with the spirit of the day..
