Below is a description of what the camp will include. During the Winter and Spring months just as in other sports such as tennis or golf or baseball or swimming, this is a time to back to basics and to breakdown our form,to strip away our framework and rebuild ourselves literally from the ground up to improve our running for the next competetive season and beyond. Running is a sport that competence and dexterity is often assumed, since is is natural locomotion not an artificially created sport such as tennis golf etc.......however,this is clearly not the case......... Running is about moving from point A to Point B in the most time efficient\energy efficient manner possible. my speciality as I give lectures all over the USA at various Marathon Expos and to Corporations is in the teaching and explanation of the correct Biomechanics of running. In the camp I will be putting into practice many of the details included in my upcoming book "The Ultimate Guide to Better running Biomechanics. I am a Professional running USAT&F Coach, most everyday runners do not come into contact with this type of coach, most runners come into contact with a high school coach or College or Club coach that share their duties with other committments. Running Coaching is my Profession,it is all that I do and I do it from the novice walk\runner right upto the Olympic level, in Coaching Eddy Hellebuyck a 2.11 Marathoner and current member of the USA World Championship mens marathon Team,he is the # 3 ranked American Mens Marathoner. I also work with Mbarak Hussein, 5th at Boston this year and winner of the 2001 Honolulu Marathon and David Morris, a 2.09 Marathoner in Chicago 99 and Council other members from our Stable of World Class runners at Runningbuzz.com.(See list and resumes on our website ) I currently coach runers all over the USA and South America. Our goal for this running Camp Is first and formemost to teach the correct running mechanics thereby improving the runners efficiency. I will teach how to understand the effects of biomechanics on efficiency as a runner,in other words, the very meaning of what Bio mechanics stand for. I will teach breathing cadences to run at at differing speeds. I will do a gait analysis and footstrike analysis on each and everyone. We will critique each other. I will teach proper torso carriage. I will teach proper arm drive. I will teach correct footstrike I will teach relaxation techniques. I will teach technique for running uphill. We will examine periodically world class runners in action. We will discuss periodization and how to develop your own training program. With the help of Kathleen Pearlberg, a range of motion and flexibility technical expert,we will teach how to stretch upper and lower body optimally for the sport of running therough the technique of applied Active Isolated Stretching.. We will discuss and implement specific strength training designed to improve strength for the sport of running. Plus, Miscellaneous topics such as shoes nutrition hydration etc etc..... I am training to run my first ever Marathon in Washington D.C. ( i.e anotherwords, I have no idea what I am doing)...but I felt drawn to do this race, in this city because I did the Americans United Flag Relay and felt somehow that this upcoming event was a completion of the journey that was started there. I was part of Team NJ and the unity with the team members and the Flag was an event that I will never forget. Then I saw on our website that there was the first ever marthon planned for March in Washington D.C. I thought about it, and thought some more and decided to try to go this distance. It is turning into quite an experience already. Two week ago, I was called by a committee member and asked if I would dedicate my race to someone who was lost 9.11 in the Pentagon. Of course, I said yes. I will be given a black ribbon to wear during the race when I pick up my packet.I plan to wear it over my heart as each and every one that was lost will always be in our hearts, even though we do not know their names. The person to whom I am dedicating my race is LTC. Karen J. Wagner. I am honored to be able to do this. And today, I got word that the D.C. alumni chapter from my university is going to be working a water stop as it is National Orange Day ( Syracuse), a day when all the chapters across the nation try to do a special project in the community. I had contacted them and mentioned how great it would be for them to help with the marathon. So they said they are going to be there to do what they can. In the call from the marathon committee, they mentioned that Bush was planning on running but it became a security nightmare...there are some secret service who are probably very glad to stop training for running that far, besides having to be looking out for him. I just hope I do not get in too late to see some of the awards, etc.
I have been very blessed to have met some people who have given me tips on preparation and started out with me on my long runs and put up with my inability to see my friends as often as I like, but everyone has been so supportive. Thanks everybody.

Team Race on Sat. 2/16/02 at Central Park,NYC. This is a points race for men; not a team race for women BUT of course all are welcome, and it does count towards 9 races for marathon entry. We will organize the car pool even better, so that those who want to "lunch" will drive together. Go to the website for race info: www.nyrrc.org.
Message from Tom Hall: OK team, for those running the next club points race, you have to get your application in by FEBRUARY 2nd to get the chintzy $9.00 rate!!! Registering on-line is easy! Remember, the longer the distance, the longer the party afterwards. We have a full time committee scouting out spots afterwards....logistics at the car pool site must be well coordinated!!! The trails at Allaire are currently in their best shape ever. Recent snowmelt and the absence of freezing temperatures, decreased usage from mountain bikers and horseback riders, and a nice thick cushion of pine needles and leaves over hard-packed sand have combined to create a winter running surface that is hard to beat right now. In places where the sand underneath is particularly firm, there is very enjoyable bounce, and even some of the areas where the sand is normally very mushy have firmed up. Enjoy it while you can. Once the inevitable freezing temps come, we won't see these conditions again for awhile.
Speaking of Allaire, a new group run that looks like it could take off is the Saturday afternoon run. A few of us have been meeting informally (i.e. NOT sanctioned by the club) the past two Saturdays at around 2:30 p.m., which seems to fit into a lot of people's schedules. We've been doing 1-1/2 to 2 hours at talking pace, with breaks, so a Sunday long run or race are still options. All paces are welcome, and runners can turn back any time they wish with only a modicum of abuse. Call 773-6404 for confirmation. The groups starts to take shape at the Thursday night club run, so don't call before then.
WE had a great turnout of about 25 runners , even with the snow. The NYRRC declared it a FUN RUN due to icy conditions but I think the trip was worthwhile. We would have done very well in the Men's Masters groups. Tom Hall and Bill Scholl lead the way for the Veterans. Bob Childs and Tom Mullvaney ran really well for the Masters; and Jeff Largarzo had the fastest JSRC time for the Open Men, backed up by" Lou Can Do" . Jane Erbe may have run a PR for 10K and led the Women. Definitely Team JSRC can compete in NYC, but more importantly it's a good "Road Trip". We had about 20 people "brunch" together at One Fish Two Fish after the race. Will keep you posted. Don't forget the Jersey Shore Relay. !!!
