Some 300 runners participated in the Annual New Year's Eve Twilight Run held in Lake Como on New Year's Eve. The runners started in front of Bar Anticipation and wound their way through the town and around the Lake and finished back at Bar A.
After the run they were treated to a buffet and open bar as they waited for the count down to 2010 in Ireland.
Congratulations to Race Directors Phil and Penny Hinck who also celebrated their Wedding Anniversary at the Party.
It was a near ideal day for the 47th Annual Polar Bear 5 Mile Race on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Temperatures wee in the upper 40's with sunny skies and with the wind out of the west the runners were blocked from the wind by the shops and restaurants that line the boardwalk. With a large field of about 500 runners it was one of the largest Polar Bear Races in the recent past.
For the men the winner was Matt Forys of Howell in 25:20 and for the women it was Brianna Jackucewicz of Howell in 30:46.
The JSRC Marching Band also made an appearance and led the runners just before the start in a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner with many runners singing that could be heard all the way down the boardwalk to Ocean Grove. The band played for the runners as they turned around just before Convention Hall. The band is still looking for a few members. Anyone interested should email jsrc@hotmail.com
After the race many runners braved the cold ocean temperatures and rough surf and took a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Real Polar Bears!
Congratulations to Shore AC and the many volunteers who made for another memorable event.

Jersey Shore Running Club members kicked off the Holiday Season at the Annual Adopt A Family Gift Wrapping held at Holy Spirit Church Asbury Park. A good sized spirited group organized by Dawn Ciccone put together a plethora of presents for 4 needy families in the area.
Thanks to all who contributed and those who showed up to help with wrapping and organizing the many presents - it will help make for a Happy Holiday for these families.

A cold blustery morning for the Annual Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis held on December 12 at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como. But the field of over 500 runners were not deterred as they made their way through the course which took them down to the ocean and around wind swept Lake Como and a finish at Bar A. The men's winner in a time of 16:32 was Pat Dalessandro shown finishing on the left. For the women it was Maggie Freeman shown finishing on the right in a time of 20:27.
A 1 mile walk was also held and it attracted many participants.
After the race the runners were treated to a buffet and other refreshments inside Bar A. Awards were presented to overall and age group winners.
