Fools Run Through Manasquan

Another huge turnout for the Annual Fool's Run through Manasquan this past Saturday. Befitting the name of the race, runners started from the wrong start line which added about a tenth of a mile or 20 plus seconds to everyone's time. (Apologies to all the runners who had the incorrect start time on the web site). The overall winner again was Club Member, Dav DeMonico in a time of 16:32. For the women 11 year old Brianna Jackucewicz was first. In the One Miler Marie Walsh (pic on the right) was the OVERALL winner in a time just over 6 minute. The club helped out at the finish line and also provided baggage check service to all the participants. Congratulations to the Manasquan Recreation group which put on a really fun event. Nice party at O'Neills also which all the participants and club members really enjoyed. Among the club finishers were:

The "Boss" has agreed to run the final leg of the Jersey Shore Relay from Belmar to the finish at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Only problem is he needs a Team to run on. Any teams registered or planning to register should send in an email to jsrc@hotmail.com no later than 5 PM on Monday, April 1 stating why you would like him to run on your team. JSRC Team Powers Up

Getting Ready for the Jersey Shore Relay

Team JSRC had another great day in Central Park at the NYRRC Powerbar 20 Run and Relay. In the 20 Miler, Tom Hall won his Age Group in an amazing 2:07; Bob Childs got Third AG in 2:13; and Jane Erbe was Third AG in 2:33. New members Brian Downie (2:13), Jeff Neis (2:30), and Russell Stallone (2:35) all ran great, and are welcome additions to our team roster. President Bill Koch, Tom Mulvaney, Mary Moriarty, Bill Dunn, and Eric Campbell ran strong marathon warm-ups.. Another recent member Rick McNulty ran his longest training run, and is looking forward to a Fall marathon. Our Relay teams had a lot of fun. Kathy Porzio, Chris Coghlan, Carlos Morillo, and Jeananne Mc Fadden ran 5 mile splits; whereas Diane Cheer and Jessie Joseph opted for the 10 milers. Jerry Convery lost his partner to injury and ran a 10 mile training run. Judy Convery was head cheerleader for the team. Immediately after the Powerbar, Team JSRC headed over to our newly found Irish pub, Corlow East on Lexington Avenue, for carbo-reloading. Tom Hall true to his word bought all the Guinness, Harp, and Bass we could drink, plus pizzas. (This is the getting ready for the Jersey Shore Relay Part!) Thank you, Tom. Join us at the Queens Half on April 13, 2002.

Jersey Shore Relay

Get your Teams In Soon

Get your applications in for this year's Jersey Shore Relay which again will benefit Special Olympics. The Relay is filling up fast and will close out at 200 teams. We also need your team application so we can send the team captain the information packet for the Relay. Team members can be changed up to the day of the event. There will be no post registration. The Relay starts in Seaside Heights and runs along the Jersey Shore mostly on boardwalks to the finish at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Teams categories include Corporate, School, Government, Fire, Police, Club, Family and Open Teams. In addition as is the tradition awards will be given in categories such as best dressed team and most spirited teams. The distance is 26 miles and there are 5 legs. Teams are normally made up of 5 members but the course can be easily divided up for two or more runners. There are transition areas with refreshments and places to change as well as water stops every few miles. There is a staggered start so all teams finish fairly close together. There will be several bands along the course and a giant party and concert at the Stone Pony. You must be a participant as a runner or a volunteer to get into the party. Also this year there will be a Walking Division of a distance of Ten Miles which will start in Sea Girt. On line registration is available for both the Relay and Relay Walk.

Brooklyn Half Marathon

Check out the Teams Page for Upcoming Team Races

The fog lifted, the sun came out and 4068 people showed up for the running of the 2002 Brooklyn Half Marathon. Lead by Tom Hall who won his age group Bob Childs and bill Scholl, JSRC Had another strong showing placing 3rd overall in the Master team category. This effort keeps your JSRC Men's Master Team (unofficially) in 3rd overall and the JSRC Men's Vets Team in the top 6 places. Diana Pittet was the sole woman runner to make the trek into Brooklyn and ran a fine race Finishing 312 of all the woman runners and 142 in her age group. It takes a lot of dedication, commitment and heart to travel into NYC and run the many races for the NYRRC Team Competition series. With a club of over 1200 members many of whom are able to compete with the best of them, our club could have an even stronger presence at these races. Please do what you can to support your club by joining in on the fun and run in some of the up coming events.
