Trick or Trot a Real Treat Jersey Shore Running Club Trick or Trot, October 31, 1999 Jim Robbins More Pictures are available here. Halloween, or the evening before All Saints Day, or more to the point, Sunday, October 31st, was the date for the Jersey Shore Running Clubs 6th annual Trick or Trot 4 mile road race in Long Branch staged at Seven Presidents Park. Gunnar Svendson of Point Pleasant was the winner of the out-and-back course, that started on Ocean Avenue contiguous to the Park and quickly went to the Long Branch promenade and boardwalk, traveled south to a turnaround marker, and returned to the finish line located at the parking lot of the Park, at a time of 21:24 (21 minutes and 24 seconds). I felt bad - I have not been racing in a while and I felt tight, said Svendson when asked to comment on his performance. Coming in second of the 341 runners, on this clear, warm, breezy but not windy, great running-weather morning, was Middletown's Chris Stripto with a time of 21:42 followed by Todd Sinclair 21:50. Barbara Moldoch, also of Point Pleasant, and women's champion of the recent Run Thru Deal, was the womens winner at 23:55. Moldoch is to be commended for being a good sport in that she won, even though encumbered by the pseudo protuberance she concocted to portray herself as a Hooter's waitress, in keeping with the directors suggestion that Halloween costumes be worn by the participants. I was curtailed somewhat, chuckled Moldoch when asked if the breezy conditions were a problem. Coming in second for the women was Pam Gess at 24:12 and third was Chris D'Allesandro, recent women's champion of the Monmouth Countys Park Systems Run Bike Run, at 25:19. Rounding out the top ten male finishers: Paul Reck 22:03, Michael Houlihan 22:33, Long Branch; Jonathan Clementis 22:46, Ryan Davis 22:58, Bob Bonpietro 23:01, Avon; Phil Shaheen 24:15 and Paul Soldo 24:23. Rounding out the top ten female finishers: Leisha Jackucewicz 26:15 and Brianna Jackucewicz 26:47, Farmingdale; Kathryn Tell 27:05, Bradley Beach; Theresa Marciani 27:13, Brick; Mary Conry 27:57, Colts Neck; Katlin Stumeier 28:04 and Allison Bergin 28:32 Racewalk winners, Male-Female: Avrim Shapiro 46:25, Manalapan and Fran Emanuel 42:25, Bricktown. Black sweatshirts and ceramic jack-o-lanterns were awarded these leaders by the husband-wife team of John and Diane Cheer, race directors, dressed in pumpkin costumes assisted by angel-adorned Wendy Brundage of Highlands, representative of CPC's Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Recovery Programs of Middletown, the beneficiary. Kids Races and a Fitness Walk were also part of the event as well as prizes for best costumes including clowns, court jesters, and Yankee baseball, more Yankees than Braves noted Marilyn Ryder, volunteer helper at the finish line from Long Branch. Random prize drawings were offered due to the generosity of the business community. Hoyle Mozee of the Shore Athletic Club was the official timer. I would like to thank all the volunteers of the Jersey Shore Running Club , especially Phil and Penny Hinck. Thanks, too, to the Long Branch Police and First Aid and to our many sponsors, wrote the directors via Email.
