John Campbell Memorial Award

The John F. Campbell Award was presented to Graham Wisdom, a long-time JSRC member, athlete and volunteer. Graham has tirelessly and silently devoted his time and effort to the success of the Navesink Challenge the past 7 years. The Navesink Challenge could not happen without Graham's commitment every year. Graham embodies the spirit of John F. Campbell in his unselfish dedication to the sport of running, never seeking attention for himself.

The Campbell Award was initiated in 2005 upon the untimely death of Mr. Campbell. The main baseball field at Bodman Park was renamed and dedicated to Mr. Campbell in the Spring of 2006. John Campbell served as President of MYAA for many years, and was a virtual "one man show" in the functioning of the organization.

For her enthusiastic, vocal and sincere support of the sport of distance running - and, especially for her promotion of the "Navesink Challenge" races...for this support and putting forth "the good word" on distance running and races that benefit athletes, families and community - not just through word of mouth and with in-person testimony but by reaching out to tens of thousands through the power and reach of FM airwaves...for sacrificing her own glory and gains in the midst of one of the finest racing seasons by any runner at the Jersey Shore by passing up an almost definite Navesink Challenge 15k win and further glory to instead selflessly choose to run beside a new friend (and someone new to our sport - now being encouraged and nurtured as an athlete and as a new "member" of the extensive "family of runners" everywhere, by Dianne) and help her realize her own dreams and goals as a new runner...for befriending runners everywhere, at all times... and, for doing all of these things with the greatest sincerity, care and always with a big warm smile - for this and for bringing that presence and energy to Bodman Park on November 30, 2008, Dianne has been deservingly awarded the "Admiral Bodman Award" - honoring both Dianne and the name, memory and dignity of the legendary Admiral Bodman - a man who called the grounds of Bodman park home to himself, generations of Bodmans and made it a place of health, sport, friendly competition and a place that all who choose to compete in friendly cameraderie are eternally welcome to call their own home.
